Aden

Aden is a port city in Yemen, located by the eastern approach to the Red Sea (the Gulf of Aden), some 170 km east of Bab-el-Mandeb.

Aden’s ancient, natural harbour lies in the crater of a dormant volcano which now forms a peninsula, joined to the mainland by a low isthmus.

This harbour, Front Bay, was first used by the ancient Kingdom of Awsan between the 5th and 7th centuries BC. The modern harbor is on the other side of the peninsula.

Aden gives its name to the Gulf of Aden.

Mukalla

Mukalla is a seaport and the capital city of Yemen’s Hadhramaut governorate. The city is located in the southern part of Arabia on the Gulf of Aden, on the shores of the Arabian Sea. Mukalla is 480 km east of Aden and is the most important port in the Hadhramaut, the largest governorate in Yemen.

Shaharah

Shaharah (Shahareh or Shehara) is a large mountain village and seat of Shaharah District of the ’Amran Governorate in Yemen. The village lies at 2,600 m and overlooks mountainous bulging swells to the south and shimmering hot plains to the north.

The village, which lies on top a sharp mountain of the same name, Jabal Shaharah, consists of several old stone houses and a cistern.

The area is noted for its limestone arch bridge, constructed in the 17th century by a local lord to connect two villages across a deep gorge.
