Khumbu (également connu sous le nom de région de l’Everest) est une région du nord-est du Népal sur le côté népalais du mont Everest. Il fait partie du district de Solukhumbu, qui à son tour fait partie de la zone Sagarmatha. Khumbu est l’une des trois sous-régions des principales colonies Khambu (spécialement Kulung) et Sherpa de l’Himalaya, les deux autres étant Solu et Pharak. Il comprend la ville de Namche Bazar ainsi que les villages de Thame, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche et Kunde. Le célèbre monastère bouddhiste de Tengboche est également situé dans le Khumbu.

L’altitude du Khumbu varie de 3 300 m au sommet de 8 848 m du mont Everest, le point culminant de la Terre. La région de Khumbu comprend à la fois le parc national de Sagarmatha (au-dessus de Monju) et la zone tampon du parc national de Sagarmatha, entre Lukla et Monju.

Le Khumbu est un glacier qui serait le résultat de la dernière grande période glaciaire, il y a environ 500 000 ans.
