In Munich, there were two public slaughterhouses until 1878, one at the Färbergraben and one at the Viktualienmarkt. In the years 1876 to 1878, according to the plans of the city councilor Arnold Zenetti, the slaughter and cattle yard of Munich was built up with the latest findings of hygiene.

The slaughterhouse now fulfills its former function only in parts. In the meantime the terrain is mainly used for culture or art.

Much of the exterior walls serve as surfaces for artworks. And these works have it all: from stylish graffiti to unique abstract or performing art.

Streetart refers to various, non-commercial forms of art in public space, which should remain permanently there after the intention of the perpetrators.

Streetart refers to self-proclaimed signs of all kinds in the urban space, which want to communicate with a different group of people.
